The Sri Lanka–Canada Business Council successfully concluded a collaborative meeting with the University of Regina International, represented by Associate Vice President International & Chief International Officer.
During the discussions, the University reaffirmed that Sri Lanka remains one of their top priority countries for international engagement. They emphasized their commitment to strengthening academic partnerships focused on:
- Student recruitment
- Scholarship opportunities
- Faculty and research collaboration
- Exchange programs for both Sri Lankan and Canadian students
The University expressed strong interest in enabling Canadian students to study in Sri Lanka, noting that during their most recent visit, they conducted assessments on student housing, safety, and living conditions in Sri Lanka and were highly satisfied with the results.
A significant highlight of the discussion was the University of Regina’s newly launched undergraduate scholarship initiative, which offers free accommodation and meals for eligible international students, based on academic performance (GPA).
The President of the Sri Lanka–Canada Business Council, Mr. Mohomad Hameez, proposed exploring a formal partnership between the Council and the University of Regina. He further suggested the development of a letter of exchange to facilitate long-term collaboration in higher education, capacity building, and student mobility.
The Council also reiterated its close cooperation with the Canadian High Commission and IRCC, ensuring smooth facilitation of educational exchanges and immigration-related processes. This engagement underscores the shared commitment to building robust educational bridges, advancing internationalization strategies, and creating new opportunities for students and institutions in both Sri Lanka and Canada.
