The delegation from the Sri Lanka – Canada Business Council recently concluded a productive meeting with the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS) on 7th November, followed by a facility tour to explore future avenues of collaboration in advancing agriculture innovation and food security strategies.

The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Steve Webb, Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer of GIFS, along with members of the institute’s leadership team. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agri-food sector and enhancing technological partnerships aimed at building resilient, sustainable food systems.

GIFS, recognized globally as a connector and agriculture innovation catalyst, plays a pivotal role in complementing Canada’s strengths and reputation in agricultural science and food production. As a bridge builder, the institute actively integrates the entire agri-food value chain—linking scientific research, industry expertise, and community initiatives—to elevate food security and drive sustainable productivity growth.

Both parties expressed strong interest in developing joint initiatives that can support Sri Lanka’s evolving agriculture sector, particularly in areas such as crop research, modern farming technologies, and value-added agri-business opportunities.

The Sri Lanka – Canada Business Council remains committed to fostering economic cooperation and knowledge exchange between the two nations. This engagement with GIFS marks a significant step toward unlocking future partnerships that will benefit farmers, innovators, and consumers across both countries.
