On 3 November 2025, the delegation from the Sri Lanka–Canada Business Council (SLCBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce held a productive meeting with leaders from the Banking, Finance, Securities, Insurance, Mortgage, Technology and Backend Support Service sectors. The session was hosted by the Canada–Sri Lanka Business Convention, and chaired by its President, Kula Sellathurai, with the keynote address delivered by SLCBC President M. H. K. M. Hameez.

In his address, Mr. Hameez emphasised the substantial opportunities for collaboration between Canada and Sri Lanka in the sectors of Information Technology, Financial Services, Venture Capital and Outsourcing. He noted Sri Lanka’s strong position thanks to its English-speaking workforce, expanding digital infrastructure including 5G roll-out, and growing start-up ecosystem. He proposed collaborations such as joint R&D initiatives, startup exchange programmes, training and talent development, fintech and digital payments partnerships, regulatory best-practice sharing, venture capital co-investment, and outsourcing/back-office ventures.

The session featured contributed commentary from industry panellists including Mr. Hameez himself, Honcee Sanjeev (Pinnacle Relationship Manager, Pinnacle Centre – Jaffna), Wilbur Gutierrez (representing Infomate (Pvt) Ltd) and Daya Wimalasuriya (Head of Canadian Operations, Acentura Inc). Moderated by Mr. Sellathurai, the discussion touched on taxation policies, investment concessions in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province, availability of $50 mn venture fund with tax pass on structures and strategies to enhance bilateral business flows.

The SLCBC looks forward to further developing these sectoral dialogues into formal collaboration frameworks and actionable projects, thereby strengthening the trade and investment linkage between Canada and Sri Lanka.
